The high pressure fuel pump (or HPFP for short) converts low pressure fuel from the in tank pump to high pressure fuel for the direct injectors. High pressure pumps are engine driven mechanical pumps and can wear out/fail over time. This updated tappet style high pressure fuel pump on late model N18 engines is much simpler compared to early production HPFP’s. This pump is driven by a cam follower. When replacing this pump make sure the cam follower is in good working condition.
